From boosting hydration to smoothing texture, the benefits of snail mucin are well-documented among skincare enthusiasts. But the beloved ingredient isn’t right for everyone. For starters, it’s not vegan (duh). Then there’s the tricky possibility of developing an allergic reaction to the stuff, which we try to avoid for obvious reasons. Luckily, plant-based snail mucin alternatives have been quietly trending — and the latest innovation comes from none other than Glow Recipe (who, fun fact, originated as a K-beauty online retailer). The brand’s newest launch, Prickly Pear Peptide Mucin Serum, not only introduces a new ingredient family to the company’s lineup of watermelon, plum, avocado, and other fruity favorites, but also marks a serious breakthrough for next-level hydration.

The formula is a whopping 81% prickly pear mucin, derived from both the prickly pear cactus stem (a source of skin barrier-supporting hydration) and the antioxidant-rich fruit. In addition to the namesake ingredient, there are peptides (one of my favorite skincare ingredients) to deliver a line-smoothing, plumping effect. Lastly, there‘s fermented yeast extract to tackle discoloration and uneven texture. Sounds like a one-stop shop — but how does it actually perform? I set about to find out.

Prickly Pear Peptide Mucin Serum, $32

I have combination-oily skin that tends to get dry across my forehead and cheeks, and I tend to break out with products that are too heavy. As such, I usually gravitate toward hydrating serums in lieu of rich creams. After trying a bit of the stuff on my hand, I was immediately ready to slather it on my face. (TBH, I’d bathe in it if I could —the texture is that juicy and decadent.)

Per the instructions, I applied a few pumps onto clean skin in the morning. (You can either apply it to slightly damp skin post-cleanser or after your toner or essence step.) It really melts in the skin, with a refreshing, thirst-quenching feel. I followed it up with my daytime moisturizer and sunscreen and immediately noticed a healthy gleam. (The brand even suggests using a liberal amount as a flash hydrating mask to prep your skin for makeup.) After a few weeks of use, I’m already seeing bouncier, softer skin. I tend to treat my skin with kid gloves (keeping actives to a minimum and not overdoing it with retinol), so my barrier was already in a good place before introducing this serum. However, if you’re looking to get your skin back on track, something like this — or my other go-to barrier serum, The Ordinary’s Soothing & Barrier Support Serum — would be an excellent addition to any routine.

If you’re looking for dramatic results in the brightening or line-reducing department, I personally don’t think this will transform your skin. (That’s not what the formula was designed to do.) But if you want a decadent, hydrating, and skin-strengthening addition to your regimen, I think Prickly Pear Peptide Mucin Serum is very much that girl.

Every year, color-matching company Pantone picks a shade that is destined to dominate design, fashion and beauty. For 2025, the much-anticipated hue was revealed to be Mocha Mousse. Described as a “warming, brown hue imbued with richness”, it’s milk chocolate and creamy coffee swirled into the most sophisticated neutral shade imaginable. TikTok has been eating it up. There you’ll find over 23,00 posts hashtagged #mochamousse, all showcasing how the shade can work everywhere, from interiors to fashion — and even hair.

Mocha Mousse was a noticeable pivot from last year’s loud-and-proud hair colors like cowgirl copper and cherry cola red, or the golden blonde with curtain bangs made famous by Sabrina Carpenter. By contrast, Mocha Mousse is more understated. It’s a multidimensional rich brown that puts brunettes firmly back in the spotlight. Celebrities like Hailey Bieber, Zendaya and Bella Hadid have all debuted their take on the trend, cementing its status as the hair color of the moment.

@pantonetiktok Introducing Pantone Color of the Year 2025: PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse☕️🍫 An evocative soft brown that transports our senses into the pleasure and deliciousness it inspires as the Pantone Color of the Year selection for 2025. Naturally I’m a cool-toned brunette but my hair is quite light — and it can be dull, too. I’ve always chased golden or honeyed tones as well as dimension in my hair. Serena van der Woodsen’s iconic, sun-kissed lengths on Gossip Girl were my gold standard, leading to years of blonde highlights and balayage (plus one brief flirtation with liquid brunette). But after years of bleaching, I’ve found myself craving shine, depth and health without losing the warmth and those light-reflecting strands I love so much. When I spotted the Mocha Mousse trend, it felt like the perfect, non-intimidating way to transition back to my roots (pun intended) while keeping the warm tones and brightness intact.

I booked an appointment at Hare & Bone salon in London’s Fitzrovia where I asked master stylist Chloe Phelps to work her magic. Without entirely spoiling the result, Mocha Mousse is just as transformative as I’d hoped it would be.

What actually is Mocha Mousse hair?

Before I sat in the chair, I had to ask: What makes Mocha Mousse special? “The Mocha Mousse trend is a luxurious, expensive and multidimensional mix of browns and beiges,” Phelps explained. “Think rich, glossy tones that can be tailored to anyone.” The key lies in its adaptability; it’s not just another brown. What sets Mocha Mousse apart from your typical deep brunette shades is its ability to balance earthy tones with subtle hints of warmth or coolness depending on your personal preference. This gives it a truly bespoke feel.

While Pantone’s announcement certainly catapulted Mocha Mousse into the spotlight, its appeal runs deeper. Phelps explained that unlike many seasonal trends that come and go, Mocha Mousse feels like it will remain a staple throughtout the year. “This mix of tones is so diverse and adaptable that I think it will stay around for a while,” Phelps told me. Its versatility makes it more than just a fleeting trend, she said. In fact, it’s a classic in the making.

How is the Mocha Mousse hair color achieved?

The process of achieving the Mocha Mousse hair color depends on your starting point. For light blondes, Phelps suggests adding tone and depth back into lightened hair through a global application, which is the process of applying a single — or block color — dye to the hair from the root right through to the tip. In this case, it would be a shade of brunette that complements your individual skin tone.

For me, Phelps opted for a “reverse” brunette balayage — a hand-painting technique that blended darker hues seamlessly with my lighter strands. Phelps then added caramel-toned pieces to create a multidimensional look. The result was rich yet soft and natural. For those with natural brunette hair, Phelps said that your colorist is likely to add pops of color. This can be achieved using bleach or a high-lift tint. The latter allows you to lift the natural pigment in your hair by a handful of shades, resulting in lighter pieces. Typically, it’s not as extreme or damaging as bleach. Whether you’re starting with bleached hair like me, or a deep brunette base, the Mocha Mousse trend proves that brown hair is anything but boring.

Who might suit the Mocha Mousse hair color trend?

If you’re wondering whether the Mocha Mousse hair color trend is right for you, I have good news: There’s a version for everyone. “It’s a shade that can be customized for anyone looking for glossy, muted tones,” Phelps said. “The key is tailoring the amount of warmth or coolness to the client’s skin tone,” she continued.

A short consultation before your actual hair color appointment is crucial to achieving that perfect match. Happily, Mocha Mousse pairs beautifully with a wide range of hair textures and styles, too. “It would work on all hair types,” said Phelps. “Depending on length and thickness, different [dye] applications can be used to add the appearance of thickness, dimension and different hues. Shorter styles like pixies or crops look stunning with an all-over application, while bobs and longer styles benefit from added dimension,” Phelps added.

How do you maintain Mocha Mousse hair color at home?

The best thing about the Mocha Mousse hair color trend is that it’s refreshingly low maintenance. Phelps recommends semi-regular salon visits to keep the color rich and lustrous (typically every eight to 12 weeks), paired with color-protecting shampoos and conditioners to prevent fading.

R29 rates Color Wow Color Security Shampoo, $32.50, and L’Oréal Professionnel Vitamino Color Care Shampoo, $54.

After years of expensive root touch-ups as a blonde, I’m embracing the simplicity, using this as a chance to give my hair some much-needed TLC. Repair masks and treatments are now in regular rotation as I work on growing out the broken, bleach-damaged pieces around my hairline. While my strands aren’t magically restored, they already look shinier and healthier.

What is the Mocha Mousse hair colur like IRL?

I’ll be honest: I was nervous about going back to being a brunette. Every time I’ve dabbled in darker hair before, it seemed to wash out my skin and so I relied on bronzer and fake tan to bring some life back to my face. This time it’s different.

When Phelps spun me around to face the mirror, I exclaimed, “Oh my god, where has this option been all my life?” I love it so much. My hair looked shiny, dynamic and, dare I say it, expensive. The rich tones made my light eyes pop, and for the first time as a brunette, I didn’t feel the urge to grab my makeup bag or self-tan.

I’m thrilled with the warmth and depth that Mocha Mousse has afforded my hair, and I can see myself sticking with it. With the arrival of summer, I might dream about tiptoeing into bronde territory for a sun-kissed, boho vibe, but for now I’m soaking up the compliments on my transformation, not to mention the sheer ease of it all.

Mocha Mousse feels like a reset for both my hair and my confidence. Whether you’re a brunette looking to switch things up or a blonde ready to give your hair (and bank balance) a break, it might just be the ticket to a glossy, low-maintenance hair color.

20 New Perfumes To Make Your Summer Smell Good

TikTok Made Me Do It: Soccer Jersey Outfits To Try

I grew up in Union City, New Jersey, which sometimes gets referred to as “Little Havana on the Hudson.” It’s home to one of the biggest Cuban communities outside of Miami, thanks to waves of Cuban immigrants who settled there over the decades. Walking around, you see it in restaurants like Dos Amigos (where the only thing on the menu is a pan con bistec), the way the Cuban flag flies right below the U.S. one around town, and in the Celia Cruz Plaza on 32nd street. So it’s no wonder that anytime I go home, I have to grab a Cuban sandwich, Cuban links have always been part of my necklace stack, and even my Colombian dad will casually drop an “asere” around his coworkers.

That magnetism is what makes Cuban culture so distinct. With about 1.5 million Cuban Americans across the U.S., their culture quietly (or not so quietly) influences what we see, wear, and experience every day. If you’re looking to support Cuban fashion, try mojo-inspired sauces, or discover more Cuban American-owned businesses worth backing, here are some you should definitely check out.

Clandestina emerged from Havana’s creative underground, blending Cuban humor, tropical vibes, and a commitment to sustainable fashion. Since 2015, the brand has filled a gap showcasing the resilience and everyday joy of Cuba through clothing designed to uplift both community and the planet.

Born from a rich family legacy in men’s sportswear, Cubavera was launched in 2000 by Cuban-born George Feldenkris and his team to celebrate Latine culture through clothing. Taking inspiration from the traditional guayabera, the brand reimagines this iconic style with modern fabrics and designs.

Was there an expectation for you to attend higher education? Did you participate in any form of higher education? If yes, how did you pay for it?
Yes, my father was a first-gen uni student in his home country, and my mother never got to go to college in hers. They did everything they could so that I could have the education that I wanted, which was in the US. I came here for college and went to grad school. Both were mostly financial aid and work study but my father contributed at least 30% each which was a HUGE help and he was so proud that he was able to do this for me. Now I’m obtaining a doctorate, and it is completely covered by my work.

Growing up, what kind of conversations did you have about money? Did your parent(s) educate you about finances?
We didn’t have any conversations about money. I knew my dad grew up very poor, and worked his way up by studying and working very hard. He invested in the right real estate in the country that we immigrated to (we moved to a different country in East Asia when I was in primary school). I feel like I overheard my parents discuss finances but I was never directly taught.

What was your first job and why did you get it?
My first job was in college, freshman year, as a work-study student. I worked a lot of jobs in college and grad school, including gym, building maintenance, cafeteria, bookstores. For my first off-campus job, which I did throughout college, I worked at a domestic violence shelter which actually helped me with my résumé and life experiences greatly as well. Immigration status has been a huge barrier in obtaining employment for me for the past 15 years, but somehow I was always able to find jobs through school, OPT, CPT, and H1B. Trust me, it took a LOT of planning and anxiety!

Did you worry about money growing up?
I did not. I knew we weren’t terribly well off but when I was in middle school, my father’s job got a huge boost that helped us go from “lower middle class” to now “upper class”!

Do you worry about money now?
No. This is my second diary submission and I remember saying yes to this previously. But now, I feel like I truly know my worth in my industry, and now that I have a green card, I feel SO free and invincible! I’m so grateful!

At what age did you become financially responsible for yourself and do you have a financial safety net?
I definitely have a financial safety net. My parents say they will not hand us any more money but truthfully, my father believes providing for us financially is his greatest joy and responsibility. He helped me with my down payment for my first home in NYC and informed me that I will not see another dime from him, which I am SO a fan of. I am now earning more than he ever did, thanks to everything he did to provide for my education. So, being completely financially responsible for myself truly started in 2021 after his help of the down payment.

Do you or have you ever received passive or inherited income? If yes, please explain.
Yes, see above! And I will not be ashamed. I used to be ashamed by how much my father has helped me. But I remember my colleague who couldn’t provide for his child’s education telling me “Why are you being a brat, just say thank you and accept the money, that’s what he wants you to do,” and ever since then, I have checked my privileges, accepted them, and decided to be grateful and give back instead.

Day One: Monday

6:30 a.m. — I wake up; breakfast every day this year so far has been two hard-boiled eggs and cottage cheese with some EBB seasoning and chili flakes. I have coffee with almond creamer and stevia hazelnut drops. I used to treat myself to coffee every once in a while but am now committed to finding the BEST at-home creamer (so far, Elmhurst almond milk barista has been the best!). I eat quickly and head to my bloodwork and ultrasound appointment for the egg-freezing journey I’m on as a single woman in NYC. I take the subway round trip but decide to get off a few stops early to get my steps in. My work covers at least three rounds of egg freezing, and they provide amazing coverage for other IVF options, too. I decided to take full advantage as I don’t see myself finding an eligible man to make a baby with in NYC anytime soon! $5.80

10 a.m. — I buy some groceries between patients: cottage cheese, sweet potatoes (still a fan, see my previous entry), cucumber, cherries, apples, watermelon, crackers, cheese, and frozen scallion pancakes. I also manage to get some steps in. I’m trying to make 15,000 steps a day because I’m no longer allowed to work out or run since egg freezing started. This, among hormonal side effects, has made me very depressed, not to mention the patients I see come in with their partners or family members, neither of which I have in this country. I constantly wonder why I’m freezing my eggs in the first place because I don’t know what it would be like to be a single mother. This journey has been extremely difficult for me both emotionally and physically: The inability to work out and the amount of bloating has made my body dysmorphia the worst it’s ever been. $32

12 p.m. — I make the viral PB and soy sauce cucumber recipe and have some scallion pancakes with it. I WFH most days which is delightful, because I hate meal prepping. I also really don’t like eating out unless it’s something social with friends. I definitely eat to live, not the other way around.

6 p.m. — I have a date. First date. Not a great one, although he does pay for dinner. I don’t usually do dinner dates and I should’ve stuck with that. I offer to venmo him but I don’t hear from him again! I walk to and from the restaurant which saves $6 and I get my steps in. I’m proud of myself for at least going out and trying to be more social!

10 p.m — I get home and take my makeup off. As a Korean, all my skincare is definitely from my home country (although Laneige works well for me, too). But skincare carrot pads? Definitely worth the hype! I try to read before bed and lights out but when my mood is low I need some noise, so I play Friends in the background and fall asleep to it. Counterproductive I know, but sometimes you do what you gotta do.

Daily Total: $37.80

Day Two: Tuesday

8 a.m. — Go for an hour walk after my egg and cottage cheese breakfast. No bloodwork or ultrasound appointments today. It is quite nice to have a park right in front of my house but I do miss running, so, so much. I can’t wait to be done with egg freezing. One round is about 10-12 days, and after the surgery, I’m still not allowed to run or do any exercise for 10 more days. CANNOT wait to be done.

12 p.m. — Same lunch as yesterday. I have some fruit to go with it. I see up to 20 patients a day, but sometimes patients don’t show up. I secretly love it when this happens unless I’m genuinely worried something has happened to them. I browse walking pads for my standing desk but I think it’d be too much of an eye sore.

7 p.m. — I go see the musical Maybe Happy Ending with a friend! Scored a good deal online and as an Asian, I’m very excited. I realise I need more social activities to break up my week because with WFH, having my social interactions come purely from seeing patients can be quite depressing. Did I mention I’m a psychiatric nurse practitioner… I walk to the show but subway back ($2.90) because dark = dangerous. I venmo my friend $95 for the show. $97.90

10 p.m — I get home and do my usual nighttime routine. My body dysmorphia from egg-freezing bloat has gotten so bad that showering is hard in daylight. I dim the lights and shower really quickly. I have a mini meltdown. I think of ways to address body dysmorphia with my psychiatrist and therapist because I want to be happy when I’m pregnant and postpartum instead of struggling with body image during that time in my future.

Daily Total: $97.90

Day Three: Wednesday

6 a.m. — I take the subway to go to bloodwork and ultrasound again. It averages to be about every other day that I’m there. It gets tiring but I’m an early riser and am thankful they open early so I don’t have to take any extra days off work. $5.80

12 p.m. — Today’s lunch is sweet potatoes and some broccoli and tofu! It’s not the ingredients, it’s the seasoning that makes a dish. I use some nutritional yeast, sriracha, salt, pepper, and gochujang to jazz it up. Barebell bar from my cupboard to satisfy my chocolate craving.

5 p.m. — I go for my 10,000 steps and call a friend who moved to Colorado recently. Come home and have dinner of frozen blueberries, yogurt, protein powder, and some edamame. Most of my days look like this: I work from home mostly and go to clinic twice a month or so. I’m hoping that I can get a promotion soon since I finally got my permanent residency card. It’s been a 15-year journey and I’m SO proud of myself for getting my employer to sponsor me. Historically, this hospital is known to never sponsor people and I’ve become the exception. I am so thankful with a side of huge guilt, as most of my friends and colleagues have now been deported (“asked to leave”) as they couldn’t find an employer who will sponsor them. Once I got this card, I cried SO hard I surprised myself. I didn’t think it would be this emotional but the sweet taste of freedom to work whatever job I want has given me so much financial independence and confidence.

10 p.m — I watch a bunch of Love Island episodes and now it’s bedtime. I am watching US Season 5 to see if I can get into it. I don’t get into it until episode 30 or so when they have Casa Amor. It is good background noise but it would be so much better if I had my friends to watch with me! It makes me a bit sad that so many of my friends  have moved away from the city. The hormones probably aren’t helping with this!

Daily Total: $5.80

Day Four: Thursday

6 a.m. — Back-to-back ultrasound and bloodwork today! My egg retrieval surgery is probably in two days. Trigger shots will be started today and tomorrow morning. I lucked out and will be doing it this weekend so I don’t have to call out sick. I can call out sick and I do get plenty of sick days, but this would mean my 30 patients all have to be rescheduled and I don’t want to do that to them, or to my assistant! I do try to be better at calling out if I absolutely need to without feeling too guilty. $5.80

12 p.m. — Same lunch. I had a meeting with my supervisor earlier that went well. Now that I have my Permanent Residency Card, it’s finally possible for my employers to promote me and for them to give me a raise. Fingers crossed this happens sooner rather than later! The first thing I did when I got my PR card freedom was to list myself as a catsitter, and I receive an email today asking for THREE gigs already. Oh, the things I’ve wanted to do. I could have my own practice now and quit my job but I’m getting my doctorate which is all paid for by my work (for as long as I’m an employee) and while I could see super-rich people for super-rich money, I would rather save my mental health and cuddle with cats instead!

5 p.m. — Same yogurt dinner as yesterday. I do snack throughout the day but they’re all pantry snacks so I’m not writing about them. I get my steps in and when the alarm rings, I do my trigger shot! Round 3, I cannot wait to be done! I also video chat with my mum in my home country. She’s trying to learn English. I try to imagine when/if we will ever live in the same country again or if I could ever raise my “egg/child” without her help.

9 p.m — I do my skincare routine (it’s really just moisturiser and carrot pad toner). I debate reading but pass. Friends for background noise it is. You’ve all caught me during a weepy hormonal week. To think that I see patients everyday and put on a bright face so I can treat them. I tell myself I should probably take a sick day after the surgery to re-coup my mental health. I also know once hormones wear off, I’ll start feeling a lot better.

Daily Total: $5.80

Day Five: Friday

8 a.m. — Same breakfast plus a side of trigger shot. I run to the subway to get to class. $2.90

12 p.m. — I have my doctorate class once a month. We also do weekly online assignments between monthly classes as all 20 of us are working nurse managers or nurse practitioners. I know this degree isn’t teaching me much to be completely honest, but if I want to be a professor (which I think I do!) or want a bigger leadership role, this will help me advance my career. Besides, my work pays for it all because I will never spend another dollar doing higher ed ever again. We all need a piece of paper to get more papers (aka $) and I’m not about this system. Anyway, I vent with classmates about assignments and we all grab the lunch special at a nearby Thai spot. $20.50

5 p.m. — I decided to be outrageous and walk home. 30,000 steps for today! Got to get some rest now for surgery tomorrow. On my way home, I stop by Trader Joe’s and get some chocolate and nuts for post-surgery treats. $13

7 p.m — I get home. My legs are tired, but walking from Manhattan to Brooklyn is always a treat. I debate leaving the city quite often since a lot of my friends are now abroad or in other cities. However, while loneliness can get to me, I know it’ll be worse in other cities. At least here, there are so many opportunities where I can find new friends if I want to put myself out there. I’ve joined a TCK group and FB group for international girls living in NYC and have managed to find a few close friends recently. I still don’t have the energy to meet up with them again yet so I stay flakey this week for the most part. My social energy definitely comes and goes. I also know these friends are more “superficial” activity friends, which is totally welcome, but I need ugly-cry-on-my-couch-level friends whom I consider family to be around me right now. So instead, I leave a friend a teary voice note. They offer to catch a flight to be with me for the surgery tomorrow but I say I’ll be okay and we decide to FaceTime instead.

10 p.m — I finish Love Island season 5 and now it’s time for the REAL fun: digging up all the Reddit threads and TikToks around the drama. Before I know it, I’ve been scrolling for three hours. This is rare for me so I consider it a treat before surgery.

Daily Total: $36.40

Day Six: Saturday

7 a.m. — Subway to surgery! $2.90

10 a.m. — They need me to have a friend come and sign me out since the procedure does require general anesthesia. Thankfully the person I’ve asked is also doing egg retrieval, which has been a huge support. She comes and we Uber back together. I’m groggy and tearful from all the hormones! $52

3 p.m. — I’m craving sweet potatoes so I walk to the store. No more walking today. I’m still very, very tired from all the anesthesia. Surgery itself is only 10 minutes long but general anesthesia really does take a toll on you. I rest and rest. I dread the recovery where I get super weepy. The first two rounds I have definitely cried over some patients because they yelled at me for not giving them Adderall. Normally I would’ve laughed, but these hormones… I wonder how I’ll feel if I ever do end up pregnant. I am SO impressed and respect ALL the mothers out there. $12

4 p.m — I’m already antsy despite the fatigue. I know if I lay on my couch more, I’ll only get more tired. I go for a small lap around the park and watch all the puppies running around. I can’t wait for my catsitting gig to start.

7 p.m — I’m bloated from surgery and the two pounds of sweet potatoes are sitting heavily on my stomach (surprise, surprise). I decide to call it a night early after FaceTiming my friends abroad (Morocco and England). They try to cheer me up and say my body’s been through a lot producing all those extra eggs, and that I should not be so hard on myself. I can’t help but feel down because I don’t know what will happen with these eggs. Will I find a partner? Ideal but seems impossible in NYC. Will I be a single mother? Possible, but if I can’t handle this journey alone, how could I raise a child alone! Will I just sell these eggs? Maybe. Everything feels so uncertain!

Daily Total: $66.90

Day Seven: Sunday

7 a.m – I wake up, and scroll a bit since I cannot go for my morning run. I eat my usual boiled eggs and cottage cheese and take a short walk instead.

1 p.m. — I buy a dress on Depop to cheer myself up post surgery. I need a summer linen work dress, so here we go. I try not to buy new unless it’s an investment piece I’ll wear forever, but I’ve also realised I need to stop thrifting to buy an item I’ll only wear once. I’m trying to be as mindful about fashion waste or waste in general as possible! $21

3 p.m. — I’ve been home all day, and in an attempt to move a little to reduce this bloating and constipation, I go for my walk around the park. When I bought my place, the biggest perk was living right by a huge park. I love this park and this park is me. I feel like I know every inch of it at this point, after living here for five years!

6 p.m. — I call my mother and video chat for a bit again. No social activities this weekend because I’m cranky and bloated from surgery. I know this looks like I really don’t spend any money and… I really don’t! In fact, I’ve been eating out more than usual this week. I do travel often — two or three times a year internationally — to go see family or friends abroad, which is a big expense. Otherwise, I save up so I can send my parents their allowance or provide education for my potential future child!

10 p.m — I put on Friends again after doing my skincare. It’s been such a long week and I decide to call out sick tomorrow. I feel incredibly guilty but my brain is truly not functioning and it’d be a disservice to my patients for me to not be 100% present. I justify it in my head, tell my friends so I can ask for arbitrary permission and approval from them, and call out sick. I do know my job is definitely a calling for me and I’m so grateful I’m good at it, I have fun in it, and I can make a stable living out of it. However, when my mood is low, it affects my job — and the other way around, too: When my patients yell at me, fire me, or threaten to sue me or overdose (I specialise in addiction and patients often ask for very specific medications that I know are not good for anyone long term), it really gets me down. But I meditate at different Zen Centres in the city, which can be helpful. And in these difficult moments, I’m very grateful for my friends, therapist, and psychiatrist. It always ebbs and flows, and it always will.

The Breakdown

Conclusion

“As I mentioned in my note at the start, I’m feeling so much better than I was during the week of my diary! I feel very fortunate that I have such privileges to have insurance that covers IVF treatment and a good support system of people who were there for me throughout the process. The bloat eventually wore off and as soon as I returned to working out and taking care of my body appropriately, I was able to appreciate its functionality again.

“In terms of spending, this was a very typical week for me. I’ll try to do one social activity per week, but otherwise I’m a homebody. I do know I need to treat myself more often, but I prefer saving so I can travel and see my friends who are abroad instead! I’d say ~$6,000 goes to travel every year for me.”

A Week In New York As An Intern On $40 An Hour

A Week In Copenhagen On A $98,700 Salary

A Week In Brooklyn On A $167,000 Salary

Cosmic beings, how are you feeling now that the Virgo New Moon has reset the playing field? This wasn’t your average new moon… it arrived on last weekend and opened a portal that feels more like the start of a movie than just another lunar phase. Think of yourself as the main character who knows a major plot twist is coming, and the decisions you make now are the ones that carry you to that big cinematic climax. This week is about planting seeds that grow into sustainable habits, not temporary fixes. Virgo energy doesn’t reward shortcuts; it celebrates step-by-step progress, rituals of self-care, and the kind of discipline that makes you proud of yourself six months from now.

On the 25th, Venus struts into Leo, and the timing couldn’t be better. Mercury retrograde in Leo threw many of us through the ego wringer earlier this summer, but with the retro-shade ending the very same day Venus enters the sign of the lion, it’s a moment of cosmic applause. We’re being asked to celebrate how much we’ve grown since Venus’s retrograde in Leo back in 2023. Expect bold fashion choices, louder laughs, and more dramatic entrances — but remember, Venus in Leo isn’t about wearing a mask to impress others. It’s about showing up as your authentic self, glowing from the inside out. Romantically, this energy makes us magnetic, but it also tests whether we’re falling for someone’s shine or their substance. Keep it real.

Midweek, on the 28th, Uranus in Gemini sextiles Neptune in Aries, creating a dreamy, electric current that can feel both inspiring and a little destabilizing. It’s the kind of aspect that sparks creative ideas, sudden downloads, and spiritual breakthroughs, but it also has the potential to make us impulsive. If you’re tempted to take a leap of faith, pause to ground yourself before you jump. This cosmic combo is best used when you let your imagination run wild, while also keeping one foot firmly on the ground.

The week ends with the moon in Sagittarius, lighting up our inner explorer. After the intensity of the Virgo New Moon and the deep-dive vibes of the Scorpio Moon earlier in the week, this fiery lunar shift invites us to shake things off. It’s giving “bohemian star of your own life” energy — whether that means dancing with your friends, booking a trip, or simply stepping out of your comfort zone in a small but meaningful way. As August winds down, remember: joy is also part of your healing, and laughter is a form of manifestation too.

Aries Sun & Rising:

Aries, Virgo Season just entered your wellness chat, and honestly, it’s asking you to pause and check in with yourself. The Virgo New Moon last week was a reminder that you can’t be the superhero of every marathon without tending to the small, daily rituals that keep you grounded. This first full week of Virgo Season feels a little like running straight off a finish line and realizing what you need most isn’t another race, but a glass of water, a nap, and some mindful breathwork. Your fiery energy loves to sprint, but Virgo’s step-by-step vibe is teaching you to honor pacing. Think of it as tuning your body and spirit so the goals you’ve been dreaming up actually have stamina behind them. Don’t beat yourself up for slowing down… this is where the real growth happens.

Then Venus enters Leo on the 25th, and suddenly your love life and creative spark get a glow up. After weeks of Cancerian coziness in your emotional world, Venus in a fellow fire sign is like your inner child grabbing the mic at karaoke and belting their heart out. Romance feels fun again, not heavy, and you might notice crushes (new or old) reaching out with playful banter. Creatively, this energy is magnetic — the more you lean into joy and spontaneity, the more opportunities and even financial wins flow your way. You’re meant to play, Aries. Don’t overthink it. This transit reminds you that fun can be your most attractive asset.

Taurus Sun & Rising:

Taurus, Virgo Season is here to remind you that your inner child deserves the spotlight. The Virgo New Moon activated your creativity zone last week, and now the first full week of the season is asking: are you listening to your inner joy, or are you silencing it with overthinking? This isn’t about perfection. It’s about play. If you’ve been feeling pressure to be the “responsible one” in your relationships or friend group, Virgo energy is nudging you to take some weight off your shoulders. Channel your time into something that lights you up, whether it’s painting, planning a date night, or journaling your wildest daydreams. The magic is in presence, not performance.

On the 25th, Venus enters Leo and shifts the focus toward your home base — the space where you recharge and find your sense of safety. Venus here encourages you to bring beauty and warmth into your living environment, maybe with a redecoration project, or by spending intentional time with family. It’s also about emotional roots: who do you feel most at home with, and how can you cultivate that intimacy? Since Venus rules your sign, you’ll feel this one deeply: grounding yourself in love, laughter, and comfort becomes your secret superpower. Don’t underestimate the wealth of joy that can grow when your home life feels supported.

Gemini Sun & Rising:

Gemini, the first full week of Virgo Season is handing you the cosmic equivalent of a spring-cleaning checklist, even though it’s late summer. The Virgo New Moon illuminated your home and roots last week, and now you’re being guided to take those intentions seriously. If there are closets to clear, contracts to review, or family dynamics that need soothing, this is the week to focus. Virgo energy loves the details, so don’t get lost in the big picture — instead, tackle one corner, one conversation, one task at a time. The peace you create in your external environment will ripple inward and stabilize your often-busy mind.

Then Venus enters Leo on the 25th, and suddenly your words sparkle. Venus in your communication zone is like putting glitter on your thoughts: your texts, conversations, and even social media posts feel magnetic. This is the energy that can attract collaborations, flirtations, and fun little synchronicities that leave you smiling. If Virgo Season has you buried in housework or family obligations, Venus in Leo brings levity, reminding you that laughter is medicine, too. Just be mindful not to over-promise or exaggerate in the excitement of it all. Your gift right now is that your authentic voice is irresistible, so use it to share your truth and watch the connections flow.

Cancer Sun & Rising:

Cancer, Virgo Season is pulling your attention toward your communication style. After the Virgo New Moon last week, you might notice yourself craving more precision in how you express your needs and set boundaries. This first full week of the season is perfect for sorting through your inbox, journaling through any lingering emotions, or finally having that clarifying conversation you’ve been putting off. Virgo energy wants you to be intentional: don’t just talk to fill the silence, but speak to actually be heard. You’ll feel more empowered by keeping it clear, honest, and concise, even if your natural Cancerian instinct is to swim through feelings first.

On the 25th, Venus glides into Leo, spotlighting your financial world and your sense of self-worth. This is a shift from Venus’s recent stint in your sign, which may have made your relationships feel cozy but also heavy. Now the vibe is more confident, bold, and fun. You’re being asked to value yourself enough to ask for what you deserve — whether that’s in your career, in love, or even in small daily interactions. Venus in Leo amplifies your magnetism when you own your worth. Don’t shy away from bold moves like negotiating a raise, investing in a passion project, or splurging on something that makes you feel radiant. Remember: the universe mirrors how you treat yourself. Set the bar high.

Leo Sun & Rising:

Leo, the Virgo New Moon last week reminded you that financial health and self-worth are connected, and this first full week of Virgo Season is the moment to take action on those revelations. It’s not about panicking over budgets or going into scarcity mode… it’s about clarity. Where is your money going? Where do you want it to go instead? Virgo energy loves a spreadsheet or a step-by-step system, so if you’ve been winging it, this is your chance to ground yourself with practical moves. The more you honor your values and align your resources with them, the more secure you’ll feel.

Then on the 25th, Venus enters your sign, and it’s basically Leo Season round two — yes, even though the sun has already shifted into Virgo. Venus in Leo is your cosmic encore. Expect compliments, opportunities to shine, and maybe even some bold romantic gestures. Your magnetism is off the charts for the next four weeks, and the universe is urging you not to dim it. That said, the lesson here is authenticity: are you shining because it’s true to your soul, or because you think people expect it of you? Choose the former, and the glow is unstoppable. This Venus transit wants you to love yourself out loud, unapologetically.

Virgo Sun & Rising:

Virgo, welcome to your solar season! The New Moon in your sign last week was like a cosmic reset button, and this first full week of Virgo Season is your chance to lock in those intentions. You might feel pulled to create fresh routines, update your wardrobe, or prioritize self-care in ways that remind you that you are the main character. Don’t let perfectionism trip you up. This isn’t about “fixing” yourself; it’s about honoring the wholeness you already are while refining the areas of your life that crave more order. Think of it like curating your own energy. Small shifts now create big transformations later.

Then on the 25th, Venus enters Leo, retreating into the shadows of your solitude and behind-the-scenes world. At first, this might feel like a contradiction: you’re glowing in Virgo Season, but Venus is nudging you to do some plotting in private. The truth is, both are essential. Your glow up is real, but not everything needs to be broadcast. Venus in Leo helps you cultivate mystery, making your presence even more magnetic. People may sense you’re up to something exciting without knowing what it is — and that’s exactly the point. This transit encourages you to recharge, strategize, and invest in your dreams quietly, so that when eclipse season hits, you’re ready to step forward with power.

Libra Sun & Rising:

Libra, Virgo Season has you in a quiet but powerful space. The recent Virgo New Moon on the 23rd opened a chapter of closure, rest, and release, and now this first full week of Virgo Season is asking you to be intentional about what you’re letting go. This isn’t the time to juggle a million projects or overextend yourself socially. Instead, think of it as a spiritual reset: journaling, therapy sessions, or even a night of pure solitude will feel nourishing. Virgo energy is methodical, so you’re being nudged to address the habits that drain you versus the ones that truly heal you. Treat this as a detox week — not just physically, but emotionally and energetically.

When Venus enters Leo on the 25th, though, things take a brighter turn. Venus in your friendship zone helps you clarify who your ride-or-dies are and which connections no longer align. Expect invitations, new circles of people, or collaborations that remind you of the power of community. Your social life could feel magnetic again, and opportunities to shine through partnerships or group projects may appear. Just be mindful of giving your energy only to those who truly uplift you. This is your reminder that not all that glitters is gold… but when it is, you’ll know.

Scorpio Sun & Rising:

Scorpio, Virgo Season just lit up your social sector, and this first full week after the New Moon is asking you to take a closer look at who’s really in your corner. You may find yourself craving more intentionality in your friendships — less drama, more depth. Virgo energy wants you to set boundaries where needed and refine your community so it actually reflects the person you’re becoming. Maybe you’ve been giving too much of yourself to others who can’t reciprocate, or maybe you’ve been closed off to new connections. This is the week to strike a balance: give, but don’t deplete yourself.

Then on the 25th, Venus enters Leo and activates your career world, and suddenly you’re shining in the spotlight whether you planned to or not. Venus here amplifies your charm and reputation, so expect recognition from peers, bosses, or even random admirers. The vibe is magnetic: people want to work with you, date you, or support your projects. The lesson, however, is to lead with authenticity rather than ego. If you’re in alignment with your truth, Venus in Leo could open doors that feel like destiny. You’ve been transforming all year, Scorpio, and this is one of those weeks where others finally start to see it.

Sagittarius Sun & Rising:

Sag, Virgo Season is beaming its pragmatic spotlight into your career world. The Virgo New Moon on the 23rd planted seeds for what’s next professionally, and this first full week is about showing the universe you’re serious. That doesn’t mean burning out or micromanaging every detail. Instead, start small: outline realistic steps that move your career forward, organize your priorities, and be mindful of not overpromising. Virgo energy reminds you that even the most visionary dreams need structure to take flight. This week is your cosmic invitation to blend discipline with your innate optimism — and yes, you’re capable of both.

On the 25th, Venus moves into Leo and breathes fire into your expansion zone. Suddenly, life feels bigger again. You’re dreaming of travel, higher education, or even diving into spiritual practices that inspire you. After Venus in Cancer had you focusing inward and on intimacy, this transit helps you connect outward — to other cultures, people, and philosophies. Romance could take on a long-distance flavor, or you may meet someone who challenges and excites your worldview. The message here is clear: love and creativity thrive when you give yourself permission to explore.

Capricorn Sun & Rising:

Capricorn, Virgo Season has you in a philosophical mood. The recent New Moon on the 23rd nudged you to reflect on the bigger picture: What do you believe in? Where do you want to grow? This first full week of the season asks you to apply that reflection in practical ways. Maybe it’s researching programs to further your education, maybe it’s planning a trip, or maybe it’s simply committing to daily practices that stretch your perspective. Virgo energy loves the details, so even if your dreams feel huge, start with one step at a time. This is your reminder that growth is sustainable when you build it brick by brick.

Venus enters Leo on the 25th, turning your focus toward intimacy, transformation, and shared resources. After weeks of Venus in Cancer highlighting relationships, now the vibe gets deeper and more magnetic. This transit can bring financial opportunities such as inheritances, collaborations, or joint investments. It can also intensify your love life, amplifying passion but also bringing to light what’s not balanced. The key for you is vulnerability: opening up to others in a way that feels brave rather than guarded. Venus in Leo asks you to trust that being seen in your fullness — shadows included — is what creates true connection.

Aquarius Sun & Rising:

Aquarius, Virgo Season has turned your attention inward, particularly toward intimacy and the ways you share yourself with others. The Virgo New Moon on the 23rd may have stirred up questions around trust, boundaries, and vulnerability. This first full week of Virgo Season is your chance to clarify what feels safe and sustainable in your closest connections. Are you giving too much? Are you holding back? Virgo energy wants balance, so think about the habits that strengthen your bonds versus the ones that weaken them. Healing doesn’t have to happen overnight, but acknowledging where you stand is the first step.

Venus enters Leo on the 25th, and your relationship sector lights up like a firework. This could feel like a breath of fresh air after weeks of Venus in Cancer asking you to focus on the daily grind. Now, romance, partnerships, and collaborations come alive with more fun and passion. Single Aquarians may find themselves attracting bold admirers, while partnered ones may feel a renewed spark. The key is to enjoy the warmth without falling into power struggles — Leo energy is fiery and magnetic, but it can also inflate egos. Keep it playful, and you’ll thrive.

Pisces Sun & Rising:

Pisces, Virgo Season is highlighting your relationships, and the Virgo New Moon on the 23rd gave you a chance to set intentions around partnerships of all kinds. This first full week is about showing up with clarity: if you’ve been avoiding conversations or waiting for others to read your mind, it’s time to be direct. Virgo energy may feel uncomfortably structured compared to your flowy vibe, but it’s teaching you that boundaries and honesty are forms of love, too. Think of it as tuning your relationships so they actually work in harmony rather than chaos.

On the 25th, Venus enters Leo and brings blessings to your work and wellness world. This is about loving yourself through your routines: finding joy in movement, choosing food that nourishes, or even adding beauty to your workspace. Venus here helps you realize that pleasure and productivity don’t have to be separate. In fact, when you make your day-to-day life feel beautiful, the rest of your world feels more aligned. Don’t underestimate the glow-up that comes from simply treating yourself with consistency and care.

Do You Ask For Their Star Sign Before A Date?

How To Date, According To Your Star Sign

Sometimes people underestimate the beauty of traveling with a parent — I know I did, until recently. My family has always traveled, but this trip to Hilton Head was different. It was one-on-one. It was extremely special, just my dad and me, taking in all of the sights, learning every piece of history we could gather, and fully absorbing the culture. What surprised me most, though, was how much the experience nurtured not just our bond, but my own emotional wellness. It felt like a heartbeat that steadied my spirit. Maybe it was the ancestors talking to me?

Honestly, being in the throes of the day-to-day can have you spiraling to the point you lose control of your well-being. Stress becomes the norm and you’re constantly on a rollercoaster just trying to grasp for air — drowning in the highs, lows, and ups and downs that come with the territory of adulting. But traveling has a way of pulling you out of the grind of everyday life and giving your mind the space to breathe. Maybe that is why so many of us run to book that next flight before we’ve even landed from our last excursion?

I never wanted to rely on a temporary escape as a band-aid over the anxiousness, emotional trials, and worry that I’ll always have something to do, whether it’s work, personal, social, or showing up for others, while still trying to keep my head above water and fully show up for my own damn self. I know it probably sounds like a “woe is me” scenario, but trust me, it’s more common than not — especially among Black women who process and internalize stressors much differently than their counterparts. Surprisingly, during this trip, I was fully present and slowing down felt like finally permitting myself to breathe.

To know my dad is to know he’s a complete history buff, with a spirit that’s always pushing for entrepreneurship and rooting for everybody Black. As a 70-something-year-old Black man born in Alabama, his views on entrepreneurship, economic development, and the importance of preserving history and culture have always been front and center.

Traveling with him taught me that sometimes wellness isn’t found in superficiality, a spa or a retreat, but in a shared moment across generations.

So imagine us walking the grounds of Mitchelville Freedom Park, which is considered the first self-governed town of formerly enslaved Africans — and then sitting down with Bridgette Frazier, a fifth-generation descendant of the Gullah Geechee community as well as the powerhouse behind Ma Daisy’s Porch, a brand-new restaurant honoring her grandmother’s legacy. Months later, those moments are still with me because not only did it make my father proud, but they also reminded me that the time we share and the history we honor live on in our stories, in the food we eat, the communities we build and it’s up to us to preserve it all.

A way to preserve it is by taking the time to travel with your parents. We all know the days are long but the years are short. Ironically, multigenerational travel is on the rise. So, sure, I could’ve brought a friend on the trip, but traveling with my dad — even though we’re generations apart — gave me a chance to see Hilton Head through his lens as well as my own. It was not only eye-opening, but also a reminder of how history lives on when we carry it forward together — that legacy is something we live, share and pass on together.

Truthfully, nowhere is that more evident than in the Gullah Geechee culture that is still thriving on Hilton Head and throughout the Lowcountry since the mid 18th century. From the language dialect to various art forms, the Gullah Geechee story is one of survival, creativity, and community, a commonality found in our bloodline. It’s in our DNA.

I carried home with me the ability to hold space not just for myself, but for my father, for those who came before us, and for everyone still to come.

Rituals such as basket weaving are still present on the island, a West African tradition that families carried from their homelands. For those who may not be totally familiar, the Gullah are Black Americans of the South Carolina and Georgia Lowcountry known for preserving and maintaining a distinct sense of identity through language, food, spirituality, and artistic styles, more than any other Black community in the United States. Talk about resilience, tenacity, and perseverance at its finest.

By the end of the trip I realized that Hilton Head was more than just a typical vacay. It was a chance for me to slow down, breathe, and see the world through my father’s eyes. It was also a gentle reminder that our stories, rituals, and culture are not just history — they’re living legacies. Traveling with him taught me that sometimes wellness isn’t found in superficiality, a spa or a retreat, but in a shared moment across generations.

Walking those grounds, tasting those meals, and witnessing the survival of Gullah culture reminded me that history is alive — in us, through us, and all around us. Maybe that’s why the trip felt like a missing heartbeat added to my daily rhythm that I didn’t know I needed? Or maybe it was the ancestors whispering: slow down, look closer and carry this forward.

Traveling with aging parents isn’t always easy — schedules, energy levels, even interests don’t always align. However, one lesson I learned is that as adults, when we travel with our parents, it strengthens our bond, and I can wholeheartedly say I felt this truth in real time. The laughter, the quiet conversations and even the way we both paused to take in the same sight from two different generational lenses.

Hilton Head reminded me that legacy isn’t distant. It’s here, now, in every step we take and in every piece of air you and I are beyond blessed to breathe. So when I went back home, I was grateful, not just for the experience, but for the memories and the shared moments. Most importantly, I carried home with me the ability to hold space not just for myself, but for my father, for those who came before us, and for everyone still to come. More than anything, this trip reminded me of the gift of time. In the words of acclaimed author Alice Walker, “Time moves slowly, but passes quickly.”

If you were to ask me the thing I love most about Amika, it’s that the products make my hair look really, really good. The second? The signature delectable, fruity (but not too sweet) scent that takes the user experience to the next level. And now, they’ve bottled it – literally — into a hair and body mist that you can spritz from H2T.

“We actually had a hair fragrance once, but discontinued it about five years ago,” Chelsea Riggs, founding member and CEO of Amika, exclusively tells Refinery29. “Ever since, the requests haven’t stopped.” Not surprising in the least, since Riggs herself is the first to note that the signature scent is “a core part of the Amika experience.” (Eagle-eyed readers will also remember that earlier this year, the brand unveiled a limited-edition collab with Ellis Brooklyn, signalling Amika was serious about scents.)

Amika:Aura Hair & Body Mist, $28

Called Amika:Aura, the brand’s debut fragrance features familiar notes of pink grapefruit, apricot, lily of the valley, vanilla, and sandalwood. The result is a bright, fresh floral scent that works as an instant mood-booster. The clear pink bottle and flower-shaped cap nod to quintessential Amika color palettes and motifs. “We wanted Aura to feel like a vibe you step into: uplifting, confident, and a little magnetic —like stepping into your best, most confident self,” says Riggs. Featuring energizing, fruit-forward notes of pink grapefruit and apricot, the heart reveals a floral bouquet of lily of the valley for lightness. As you go about the day, the dry down settles into the warm, cozy base notes of vanilla and sandalwood. The result is balanced, not too sweet or twee, and not overwhelming in the least bit.”

Scenting an existing product — say, a body lotion or shampoo — is one thing, but translating that same aroma into a standalone fragrance poses a different formulation process entirely. “Haircare scents live in creams and oils, but a mist is all about precision,” explains Riggs. “We had to get the ratio of fragrance oil to solvent just right without losing any of the notes, and ensure the quality of the mist was as intentional as the scent itself.”

At $28, Amika Aura is relatively affordable by fragrance standards, and is also versatile enough to layer with other fragrances in your collection. A lot of body mists come in rather large bottles (it’s not uncommon to see eight-ounce bottles these days), which are a great value, but not the most practical if you like to carry your fragrance with you — like I do. At three ounces, Amika:Aura is perfect for tossing in a work tote, or purse to refresh on the go. (I like to keep it in my gym bag to spritz after a yoga class.) “For the packaging, every detail was intentional,” says Riggs. “We obsessed over the click of the cap, and the orange actuator is a hidden surprise: a playful nod to our dual brand colors.”

Body mists can go from zero to cloying fast, but not this one. The scent itself is super elevated, complex, and even a little sexy, in my opinion. “The idea was to bottle what Amika has always meant to our community: something warm, uplifting, and totally personal,” says Riggs. “It’s not just a scent. It’s a vibe.”

Louis Vuitton Beauty Is Finally Here — & We Tried

Rare Beauty's First Perfume Is Actually That Good

I Tried $295 Worth Of Face Mists In A Heatwave

Louis Vuitton has always been synonymous with fashion and travel accessories, and now, the iconic French maison is expanding its range of luxury goods (including a fragrance range that debuted in 2016) to bet big on beauty. Today marks a new chapter in the heritage brand’s history with La Beauté Louis Vuitton, a debut collection of makeup that combines signature LV house codes. And behind it all? Iconic makeup artist Dame Pat McGrath, as Creative Director.

“Working backstage for over 20 years at Louis Vuitton fashion shows, I am thrilled to now play such a key role in the launch of La Beauté Louis Vuitton, which is the result of extraordinary craftsmanship, creativity, and innovation,” McGrath says via press release. The inaugural lineup includes lipstick, lip balm, and a curated array of eyeshadow palettes, all conceived as cosmetics, yes, but also objets d’art to be kept, refilled, and treasured for years to come.

Let’s start with LV Rouge lipstick. Available in 55 shades (a subtle nod to the Roman numerals LV) and two finishes (matte and satin), infused with lip-loving ingredients like shea butter and hyaluronic acid, plus waxes derived from rose, jasmine, and mimosa flowers. Each lipstick bullet is stamped with the iconic LV monogram, and features the signature monogram flower on the cap. Taking the sensorial experience to the next level, each lipstick is scented with a custom floral fragrance developed by house perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud. As I swiped on the various shades, they felt like the equivalent of couture on my lips; the shades are dimensional and beautifully pigmented, and feel comfortable and effortless on lips. Monogram Rouge, a muted warm red that almost wears like a neutral, feels as effortlessly chic as French girl beauty always — and rather deceptively — appears. It doesn’t feel makeup-y or lipstick-y, but rather like a luxury accessory that brings your entire look to life.

Next, there’s LV Baume — the most luxurious lip balm I have ever tried. Available in 10 shades (including clear), the hydrating formula adds a sheer tint that brings lips to life. (My favorite of the bunch: Monogram Touch, a sheer chocolate brown that echoes the unmistakable initials on the iconic LV canvas.) Like the lipsticks, the balms are also gently scented with a subtle raspberry-mint fragrance, and are easily refillable.

Last, but not least, adorn your eyelids with the LV Ombres eyeshadow quads, which are available in eight distinct color stories. Ranging from luminous beige to lipstick-inspired (and surprisingly wearable) burgundy, the silky, pigmented shadows are gentle on the eyes, thanks to ingredients like plant-derived squalane and camelina flower oil extract. Best of all, the quads take the guesswork out of picking shades that work together in a single eye look. (These gorgeous palettes are also refillable, but note that each petal-shaped pan is magnetized individually and requires a bit of finesse to swap in and out.)

The full collection drops August 25, so be sure to set those alarms if you want to own a piece of luxury beauty history. “I’ve always said makeup is more than product: it’s performance, obsession, and emotion,” McGrath says. “This new chapter is about pushing craftsmanship into a new realm.”

Why Louis Vuitton’s Neverfull Is Still So Popular

Naomi Campbell On Pat McGrath's First Skin Care

It's High Time To Underpaint

The last month of summer is a spectacle. From retrogrades to eclipses, we are leveling up our power and proving that mindfulness and pragmatism are the only useful ways in which to handle matters. We’ll be golden as long as we don’t second guess our initial responses and use our wits to get us through maddening situations. The days between August 22nd and September 22nd are coming in hot, so grab the SPF and prepare to ring in the next month with passion, flair, criticism, compassion, and perfectionism. What a mix!

Before we dive deep into the astrology of Virgo season, it’s important to note that the earth sign gives excellent advice and is a loyal friend. You can always count on this throughout the upcoming weeks when times get tough. Understanding that help is on the way is an essential lesson that we all need to acknowledge, since we can also get a little stubborn during this period. If you need a helping hand, reach out to a friend, family member, or loved one, and they’ll be eager to assist, even though we might be prideful. Therefore, reciprocation is a must. It’s essential to match the energy others provide you with (and vice versa) to keep the good vibes going and flowing.

Overthinking is another thing we should watch out for. Virgos are known for their analytical skills, but can be prone to taking the analysis a little too far and ruminating over matters. The Mercurial sign tends to replay situations and conversations, giving others the chance to live rent-free in our heads, so we need to check ourselves when we go down the rabbit hole. This obsessiveness isn’t coming from a bad place. We’ll want to do good by people and be the best versions of ourselves, which can lead to us trying to be correct and careful in our words and trying hard not to upset anyone. However, we’ll also be offended if people don’t adhere to the rules we’ve set for ourselves.

The patient and hardworking earth sign allows us to organize and prepare for the upcoming season. As a result, we’ll be hyper-focused on restructuring our lives. Making small moves toward progress will enable us to evolve at our own pace. To do so, meditating on The Hermit (the tarot card associated with Virgo) will clarify what we wish to draw into our aura. Since Virgo is pure of heart, we can connect with our true essence to assess what we need.

However, the planets are also stirring up some trouble, testing our calm demeanor. The total lunar eclipse in Pisces on September 7th urges us to commit to another. The solar eclipse in Virgo on September 21st allows us to celebrate ourselves. Putting ourselves first is necessary at this time. We are the ones who can design our future. Taking stock of what is important and what is not is a great way to kick off the transcendent energy.

Beyond eclipses, Uranus commences its yearly retrograde in Gemini on September 6th. The erratic and rebellious planet will re-enter Taurus, returning to the end of June and early July. Revisiting this timeline means we have another chance to replay situations, work them out and try for a better outcome. Austere Saturn, also retrograde, jumps back into Pisces on September 1st, asking us to deal with the residual drama from the beginning to mid-May. And, yes, exes will resurface bizarrely during these planetary moonwalks.
